Keynote Speakers and Anniversary Programme
We are pleased to announce two keynote speakers for SCAPE 2026. These keynote lectures will provide complementary perspectives on contemporary challenges in pollination ecology, spanning evolutionary processes, ecological networks, biodiversity conservation, and global environmental change.
Dr. Amparo Lázaro
Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC–UIB), Spain
Dr. Lázaro is a leading pollination ecologist whose research explores the ecological and evolutionary processes shaping plant–pollinator interactions in natural communities. Her work has advanced our understanding of mutualistic networks, community assembly, and the responses of plant–pollinator systems to anthropogenic environmental change. Through studies spanning Mediterranean ecosystems and beyond, she has examined how habitat loss, land-use change, and biodiversity decline influence the structure and resilience of pollination networks, providing important insights into the conservation of ecological interactions in a rapidly changing world.
Professor Allan Ellis
Stellenbosch University, South Africa
Professor Ellis is an internationally recognized evolutionary botanist whose research focuses on the diversification of floral traits and the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms underlying plant–pollinator interactions. His work has contributed significantly to our understanding of pollinator-mediated floral evolution, specialization and generalization in pollination systems, and the links between floral morphology, pollinator behaviour, and plant reproduction. Combining field experiments, evolutionary theory, and comparative approaches, he has provided influential insights into how pollinators shape patterns of floral diversity across ecological and geographic scales.
Celebrating 40 Years of SCAPE
As SCAPE marks its 40th anniversary, the 2026 meeting will include a number of special events and activities designed to celebrate four decades of scientific discussion and collaboration within the pollination ecology community. Additional details will be announced as the programme develops.
To commemorate the occasion, a selection of SCAPE 2026 anniversary merchandise will also be available for purchase by registered participants. Further information regarding available items and ordering procedures will be provided at a later date.
